30 years of the blues / The future of public radio

Today you'll meet two Sacramento blues legends, Charlie Baty and Rick Estrin, better known as Little Charlie and the Nightcats. This month is their 30th anniversary playing together. Today they play live and unplugged on Insight.

NPR's president Kevin Klose joins us in studio to talk about what's ahead for public radio. We'll also ask him about an unexpected profession he held before taking the reigns of public radio's biggest network.

Critt's juke Joint Live Featuring Eric Crittenden at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival-Wilmington DE-June 2009

Saxophonist-Keyboardist-Entertainer Eric âCrittâ Crittenden is heralded as âOn the Corner Era-Miles Davisâ (Buffalo News) and Crittâs Juke Joint gives you all that and more. Both a live show and an NPR affiliate WBFO radio show, Crittâs Juke Joint brings jazz back home by pushing it forward. It incorporates the worldâs best musicians, hip-hop artists and DJs and infuses them with Buffalo-bred jazz, funk and soul. Itâs a funky good time ala-Critt, in that old-skool Juke Joint way!

Iraq Study Group Blues

Acoustic guitar solo improvised while listening to an NPR 1 hour news show on the Iraq Study Group report released earlier today. If you listen carefully you may hear the bleed from the headphones. In fact, I didn't have my own guitar in the 'phones, just the radio show. This isn't any great shakes, but it is probably ten times better than the stuff I recorded without listening to the radio (I was have a lot of timing problems... way more... real arhythmia prodcing stuff). Anyhow... I thought it was interesting.
