A KITT / Katt ACOUSTIC PROJEKT

ROCKS FROM THE GARDEN BAND BIO: Born out of a need to express their mutual musical admiration of such bands as The Grateful Dead, Rocks from the Garden came into being in the early 80’s. Founded by Randy (The Cat) and Mike Heaney, the band dove into the world of cover tunes it soon became apparent however, that there also was a need for them to explore their own, original, music, and with such early songs like The Smile, The 2nd Time Around, they developed their own unique sound. Randy’s enthusiastic style of playing lead guitar, with an appreciative nod the Jerry Garcia, was the perfect compliment to Mikes charismatic rhythms and thought provoking lyrics. Having gone through a few different iterations of the band, the boys finally decided that the best way to present their music was as an acoustic duo with a female singer. As luck would have it, they found their vocalist within their own circle of friends. JJs (The Kitten) voice gave the music a flavor of its own and it wasn’t long before the trio was in the studio cutting “No Stone Left Unturned”. A classic 4 song EP As the new century dawned, RFTG decided that the time was right for them to kick into overdrive and really get their music heard. Early in 2002, the RFTG fan group was initiated in Yahoo, on the WWW. It has been growing steadily ever since, clocking in at over 4,000 members as of the summer of 2005. The band is consistently turning out fine original music. Randy’s guitar playing is uncommonly fluid, with just the right mix of nimbleness and dexterity, evoking images of his nickname “THE CAT”. And their live performances are being praised every step of the way, reminiscent of their mentors in spirit, The Grateful Dead. It used to be said” There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert”. Mississippi John Hurt-Nobody's Dirty Business (February 14, 1928)

Recorded on february 14, 1928 in Memphis. It was on the strength of this recording, and it's flip side, "Frankie," that Hurt was invited to go to New York to attend his only other recording session.

Mississippi John Hurt-Avalon Blues (December 21, 1928)

Recorded on December 21, 1928 in New York City. After this recording session Hurt went back home to his home in Northwestern Mississippi and did not record again until over 30 years later. He "disappeared" until Tom Hoskins "re-discovered" him earning $28 a month on a cattle farm in the early sixties. The clue to finding Hurt was in this tune: "Avalon's my home town, always on my mind." After his "re-discovery," Hurt became popular with the folkie crowd in the sixties.

Mississippi John Hurt-Louis Collins (December 21, 1928)

Recorded on December 21, 1928 in New York City. Hurt said, when asked about this sweet murder ballad, that he "made it up from hearing people talk. He was a great man, I know that, and he was killed by two men named Bob and Louis. I got enough of the story to write me a song."
