A blues zongorázás egyik meghatározó alakja Memphis Slim (eredeti neve: Peter Chatman), aki 1915. szeptember 3-án született Memphisben. Hétévesen kezdett el zongorázni, 16 évesen már egy kávéházban zenélt. A ’30-as évek vége fele Chicagóba költözött, majd elkészítette az első lemezfelvételeit az Okeh Recordsnál. A legtermékenyebb időszakának az 1952-54 közötti időszakot tekinthetjük. 1962-ben Willie Dixon-nal közösen Európában koncerteztek és az itt szerzett pozitív benyomások hatására Párizsba költözött és itt is halt meg 1988. február 24-én.

Memphis Slim (September 3, 1915 – February 24, 1988) was an American blues pianist, singer, andcomposer. He led a series of bands that, reflecting the popular appeal of jump blues, included saxophones, bass, drums, and piano. A song he first cut in 1947, "Every Day I Have the Blues," has become a blues standard, recorded by many other artists. Slim made over 500 recordings.
