01- Blues Traveler -ir kávé-

ez egy rosszul sikerült oldal (akár a többi,) érdekes lett ahogy próbáltam tükrözni a sajátjukat. Azért lejjebb van pár cd-nyi letölthető koncert. Talán ir kávé szagát sejtem, sok whiskivel.

    News:

Shurman is preparing to hit the road AGAIN!!

...no rest for the wicked they say...

Shurman has done 150 shows this year including their first UK/European tour and show no signs of slowing down...look for the band in YOUR town soon!

    Shurman Bio:

Shurman has been described as "the hardest working band in Americana" and judging by the band's relentless touring schedule they have earned that title. The band's music defies categories and is held together by singer/songwriter Aaron Beavers' soulful delivery and memorable lyrics.

The band has shared the stage with Blues Traveler, Los Lonely Boys, Lucinda Williams, Jon Doe, the Old 97s, Toby Keith, Sheryl Crow, Ziggy Marley, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Lucero, Sammy Hagar, the Drive-By Truckers, Kasey Chambers, Ryan Adams, Galactic, Bob Schneider, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Tift Merritt, the Radiators, the Minus 5 w/ Peter Buck, Los Lobos, Dread Zeppelin, Will Hoge, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, Jim Lauderdale, Shooter Jennings, Willie Nelson, Hootie & the Blowfish, the Thorns, Ben Lee, and the “Motor City Madman” himself, Ted Nugent!

"Very Good! Reminds me of old pre-Heartbreakers' stuff we used to play back in Florida."

-- Mike Campbell (long time Tom Petty guitarist)

"This is an awesomely funky record -- warm and soulful"

-- Jon Popper of Blues Traveler

"shurman has been paying their dues on the road for quite some time. Now it's time for the world to get to hear and enjoy them on record. It'll grow on you quick!"

    -- Jim Lauderdale

"shurman has done as much to revitalize the world of rock and roll as it has for music in general"

    -- LA Weekly

"Skillfully walking the line where the worlds of country and alternative rock intersect"

    -- Campus Circle

"I'm telling you, I defy anyone not to love this band."

    -- New Times

"Depending on who you ask , LA band shurman is either the next Old 97s, Drive-By Truckers, or Son Volt. Maybe all three given quartet's glossy pop melodies & southern rock twang..."

    -- No Depression Magazine

"Working in an established musical milieu requires an artist to walk a fine line between redundancy and self-conscious novelty--shurman accomplishes this feat with style!"

-- Vintage Guitar magazine June 2008

"Jubilee," recorded live in the studio, captures the passion and energy of a shurman show and the band's trademark crunchy heartland rock -n- roll mixed with country twang"

-- Get Out Magazine (AZ entertainment)

"shurman's just the sort of band radio loves, though they haven't made it onto your dial much just yet. Still, for upbeat infectious rock-pop with a strong country undercurrent (there's some lap steel in these tracks that adds just the right touch when"

    -- rockzilla.net

"The band can crank when it wants to, and the back-to-back tracks "So Happy" and "I Got You (Part 3)" represent power pop at its finest. (3 1/2 of 4 stars)"

    -- Chicago Sun-Times

"The Los Angeles-based roots - rock band Shurman sway back and forth across the Americana median, tethered to the rail by wood and wire. That of the electric guitar, of course. From the blistering rock opener "Drownin'" to its smoldering country successor"

    -- Miles of Music

"Shurman, a band that resides in Los Angeles, is tied to Arizona via singer/songwriter Aaron Beavers. The band's style of music is a combination of "the energy of alternative rock with the sensibility of alternative country.""

    -- Tucson Weekly

"Shurman are the sweetest surprise of this springtime: it's solid roots rock with catchy pop hooks, their formula is perfect for modern Americana charts."

    -- Roots Highway

"a charming blend of pop-rock, country and southern classic rock, reminiscent of the easy themes and melodies of Petty, Dave Matthews, and Jackson Browne."

    -- Music Connection Magazine

"This exuberant album-length debut (following a pair of EPs) showcases a young Los Angeles band that has roots in alt-country and an ear toward rock radio."

    -- amazon.com

"shurman are a hard-touring US outfit with good connections and are doubtless enjoyable in heartland bars and clubs with a Rolling Rock beer in hand."

    -- New Zealand Herald

"As terrific as the album sounds -- it's all held together by lead singer Aaron Beavers' world-weary vocals and an Americana sensibility. (3 1/2 out of 4 stars)"

    -- PASTE Magazine

"SHURMAN-killer band of genuine heart & soul CCR type all American soulrock! the boys are GREAT!! the real McCoy!"

-- Ted "the Motor City Madman" Nugent

"Sounds like Petty and his Heartbreakers jamming on an old-school, live-from-the-floor, rave-up romper."

    -- popmatters.com

"L.A.-based twang-rockers Shurman have built a fanatical Valley following over the past couple of years with their incendiary, sweat-drenched live shows!"

    -- getoutaz.com

    "One to Watch"

-- hob.com (House of Blues official website)

"Shurman is proof that sweat, road rubber and asphalt can still go a long way!"

    -- the Indy Weekly

"Shurman’s Aaron Beavers excels at writing big country rock songs with brawny guitar-driven choruses. “Here’s to big things from something small,” indeed."

Thanks to the Louisiana Baked Beans that got me through the show and RevKev for the gear

My review to the blackcat mailing list:

A more detailed review of 7/12 after some sleep and a listen to the tapes (which sound phenominal, btw, thanks to RevKev's gear, which made their return to a BT gig after a three year hiatus).

I pull into town around 4:00, take a wrong turn, and end up in a part of St. Louis I wish to never return. "Hey baby!," she said as she wiggled her hips and waved from the distance. No free parking to be found, I finally pull into the $5 parking lot behind the venue and next to the Mississippi River. It's at this point I curse myself for not putting sunscreen on the arm that was hanging out the window during the three hour drive down from Bloomington. Sucker still burns two days later. Run into Ross immediately, who I think was on his third bottle of LiveWire Mountain Dew (and, as I later found out, he had also downed a bottle of Red Bull at this point). Also ran into Aaron, Jon G, a lurker who will hopefully identify himself, as it was way too loud when we were originally introduced, Dan C, and others. We had a nice netter reunion going. Not quite

      Red Rocks, but fun none-the-less.

I like This Ache, and it works for an opening song, as it probably has the

best groove out of the songs on the new album. Other BT songs that fall into good openers include But Anyway and Love & Greed. I wouldn't put it up there with those two, but a good choice. Felicia is Felicia...always liked the groove towards the end of the song. Can't See Why is sorta "ehh" for me. It just doesn't seem to go anywhere. The All Hands sandwich was the shit, though. They did a great Mulling It Over segue in St. Louis last year and did it justice again this summer. The transition from Mullin' to Thinnest of Air was pretty cool, as was the transition from ToA into Steven. I'm really starting to dig things once I hear the bass line into Emperor, which, in my opinion, was a bit better than the 7/4 version. I have to say that the first big moment for this

St. Louis crowd was the huge harp solo in Emperor. Just a phenominal response from everyone. Huge smile on my face at this point...and then we slide into a good groove with the Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I can't really ask for more than a Regarding Steven > Emperor > GBU segue. They finish the set sliding back into All Hands with Tad's solo, which always seems to bring out the best in those who've had a few too many (and we're not even to set break). He does some funky stuff and we close the set with the huge All Hands finale.

While I will always long for the five minute Chan guitar solo into Gotta Get Mean from years long ago, I'm always happy to hear this, especially as a set opener. Rich Mahan added a nice touch with his guitar work. I'm not a huge fan

of the Joker cover, it did it's job and got people moving. We then go into a streak of older tunes, minus Blessed Pain and Sweet & Broken. Outside of Sweet & Broken, the rest of the show was just LOUD. Slow Change, Crash Burn, Bagheera, Love & Greed, Business as Usual...I was expected Business to close the set, but with at least 25 minutes to curfew, we get The Path which was segued with a really nice piano solo from Ben into Hook. Band comes back on with nine minutes to curfew and continues the loudness of the second set with a nice Freedom. Really like the repition of the opening chords to close the song. I think someone mentioned they had started doing this a few shows ago.

Per BT show tradition, I take a wrong turn on my way out of town and have to backtrack for about 10 minutes. The trip home gets slowed down even more when the exit to 55 North is down for repair. Talk radio keeps me alive on the way

home (Should YOU breast feed in public? Can you communicate with your cats on a conscious level?). 55 North from St. Louis to Bloomington is *not* the most exciting drive in the world.
